Day 4
Phnom Penh City Tour
After breakfast today, you will check out some amazing places in the city. First, you will visit the royal palace complex built in 1866 with vibrant Khmer-style architecture by King Norodom’s predecessors. Nearby is the Silver Pagoda, also known as the Emerald Buddha temple, filled with Buddha statues adorned with gold, diamonds, gemstones, and silver.
You will make a stop at the Independence Monument and explore the National Museum, a beautiful building with Khmer architecture. It houses over 5000 art antiques made from materials like bronze, wood, gold, silver, copper, and sandstone. As you stroll through the river-front park where four rivers meet, including the mystical Mekong, you will walk up to the sacred hill Phnom Daun Penh.
In the afternoon, you will visit Tuol Sleng prison, now known as the Genocide Museum, a hidden part of the Khmer Rouge regime. It was called S-21, a security camp designed for questioning and eliminating those opposed to the Khmer Rouge, leaving a dark part of Cambodia’s history. To end the day on a brighter note, you will go shopping around the Russian market. You will spend the night at the hotel in Phnom Penh.
